I offer tuition courses for people with various skill levels, tailored to suit individual needs and requirements. The courses are relaxed and informal with a focus on keeping safe and enjoying the experience. All you would need to bring along is a packed lunch for the full day course but are welcome to bring any tools and PPE if you wish to.
Tuition Packages
Beginners introduction
This is suited to people who are new to woodturning with little or no experience.
The course covers:
Safety in the workshop and at the lathe.
Introduction to the lathe and the basic turning tools.
Overview of tool sharpening.
Mounting timber on the lathe.
Basic tool techniques.
Aim to complete one or two simple projects.
Cost:
Half day; 09:00 - 13:00

Intermediate Course
This is for those with a basic level of woodturning skill and looking to progress to more advanced pieces.
The course may cover subjects such as:
Tool sharpening techniques.
Timber selection.
Bowl turning techniques.
Spindle turning and getting to grips with the skew.
Making pieces with multiple components such as stools, lampstand/candle stick, earing stand.
Box making.
Aim to complete one or two projects.

Advanced Course
This is for those who have attained a reasonable level of skill at the lathe and are looking to focus on an advanced techniques.
The course may cover subjects such as:
Hollow forms.
Thin turned vessels.
Thread chasing.
Pieces with component parts.
Decorating pieces with carving, texturing and colouring.
