This hollow form is made from a piece of Walnut that would have gone to firewood. The log has been turned roughly to shape and hollowed out, then allowed to dry for several months. Once the piece has dried it is returned to the lathe and turned to the finished dimensions. This piece has a wall thickness of less than 6mm. It has been finished with several coats of Danish Oil and buffed to a light sheen. It measures 200mm diameter and 200mm high.
